Shaping out whole communities based on the establishment of microclimates is a more sustainable and sensitive way to develop settlements in Northern Québec. In this respect, we developed an algorithm that generates settlement patterns by optimizing solar exposure, wind shielding and grouping of individual buildings, while following the topography of Inukjuak. This planning tool is a virtual laboratory where individual buildings interact and inform growth behaviour of the settlement in an ecosystem with limited resources.
